Sandra Bullock filed for divorce in Travis County to end her five year marriage with Jesse James. Her Houston attorney filed the paperwork on Friday.
Bullock, 45, won the Oscar for best actress for her role in the blockbuster hit "The Blind Side," on March 7. Within days of her win, the cheating allegations became public and Bullock went into seclusion.
The actress has lived in Austin for several years, and has opened two restaurants downtown including Bess Bistro on West Sixth Street.
Bullock filed divorce paperwork under the initials B.A.S. The petition for divorce says the couple no longer live together as husband and wife.
Austin family law attorney Daryl Weinman says according to the documents Bullock is seeking a low profile divorce.
“According to this she is not being angry or vindictive about it, she wants to quietly and privately end it and go on her way. I guess it will depend a lot on how he responds, and will he try to be greedy,” said Weinman.
Sandra Bullock has managed to keep one aspect of her family life private, the adoption of a three and a half month old baby boy from New Orleans. Bullock told People Magazine about Louis Bardo Bullock in a cover story due out on Friday.
Bullock and James, 41, began the adoption process four years ago, the People article said, and brought Louis Bardo Bullock home in January but decided to keep the news to themselves until after the Academy Awards.
Jesse James has three children of his own.
Weiman says if there are no major problems, the divorce hearing could happen in 60 days. It could attract a media circus to Travis County, depending on what the judge allows.
