He was as elusive as Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster, but unlike those two mythical creatures, Mac the Great Dane, is real and his great escape from his home in Central Austin ended happily.

Mac returned home after 48 days on the run from his home near Enfield and MoPac.

Despite his size and a massive search by an army of volunteers who used Facebook and Twitter to organize, Mac escaped detection until last week when he was lured into a food trap on Shoal Creek and captured.

Mac lost 20 pounds and suffered some cuts and bruises.

His owner, Chuck Smith, tells KVUE News Mac will be OK.
