Maybe it's because he's playing a secretive CIA agent in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, but Chris Pine is not interested in any form of social media.
When USA TODAY asked him about Facebook or Twitter accounts, the Star Trek star said he had none of the above.
"I have no interest in that," said Pine. "With Facebook and Twitter everyone wants to publicize their innermost truths. In 2014 we are seeing the true dissolution of public and private."
"Privacy is not as guaranteed, is not as respected, cherished or desired as it once," said Pine.
Pine does admire what some people, like Dwayne Johnson, do with their Twitter accounts, and the prominent role it has played with movements like The Arab Spring.
"There are wonderful things to do with that medium," Pine said. "I just don't have any interest in it."
Pine is a voracious Google-er and loves the radio app TuneIn for his iPhone. "I like to listen to French radio, I'm trying to learn French." He is also an avid photographer who loves Hipstamatic. But Pine won't go near the social media Instagram. He's disturbed as people fill the site with "The Perfect Wedding" posts or "The Perfect Weekend."
"And people look at these visions of 'reality' that other people are putting out there and comparing themselves to that and trying to beat it," says Pine. "The authentic experience, where is that? Living the moment. That is something that we're losing.
