Volunteers with Austin Pets Alive!, a non-profit group trying to rescue animals from euthanasia, are looking for the public's help to save the legs and the life of a special pooch found wondering in a parking lot a few days ago.

"Monty" as he's affectionately called by volunteers at the Town Lake Animal shelter is forced to walk on his front two legs.

"He'll be x-rayed and we think he might need double knee surgery. It could be congenital, it could be a recent injury, it could be abuse, we're just not sure", says Laura Stromberg with the rescue group Austin Pets Alive!

"His hind legs are definitely damaged, he's not using them. They kind of hover a couple of inches above the ground and he walks entirely on his two front legs", adds Stromberg.

Monty is believed to be a 6-month old Border Collie/Pit Bull mix with a sweet disposition and precious face.

Animal experts believe his surgery will be close to $2,000.00 per knee.

Austin Pets Alive is also holding a fundraiser Wednesday at Shangri La in Austin to raise money that was stolen from the A.P.A. out of donation jars.
