Alamo Drafthouse announces more 20th anniversary events

AUSTIN – What started as a single-screen theater near Fourth and Colorado Streets in downtown Austin in 1997 grew into a chain reaching both coasts, and the Alamo Drafthouse will celebrate their 20th anniversary throughout the rest of 2017.

The 20th anniversary celebration started over Memorial Day weekend with a reunion and screening of ‘Baby Driver’ at the Drafthouse Ritz.

"There is no better way for us to celebrate two decades of existence than sharing and celebrating movies we love. That's what our company is all about, and that's what Alamo20 is all about," said Tim League, Alamo Drafthouse Founder and CEO in a statement.

The Drafthouse said events later this year include a screening of ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ on July 10, a reunion of the cast of ‘The Monster Squad’ in August, a screening of “the infamous late-70s shocker” ‘Effects’ on Aug. 22, and a marathon of essential westerns in December with Bill Pullman and director Jared Moshé. The marathon will also include a sneak peek of ‘The Ballad of Lefty Brown.’ All four events will be screened at theatres nationwide.

On its website, Alamo is showing off images of the early days of its first location, which today is occupied by TenOak.
