AUSTIN -- The Habitat for Humanity Home for the Holidays build has begun.

This year KVUE teamed up with SolarWinds to build a Habitat home for a local family. This time the home is being built in East Austin for the Loya family.

They were on hand Monday morning helping as Habitat and SolarWinds workers raised the first wall on what will be their brand new home.

The Loyas moved to Austin from Mexico 20 years ago, hoping to provide a better life for their son who has a disability. They have spent many years in apartments, but will now have a home to call their own.

The Loyas had to put in 300 hours of sweat equity working on other Habitat for Humanity homes in order to qualify for their own. They were working hard with everyone else on Monday.

The Loya family even helped build the home directly behind their own, so they will have a familiar neighbor when they move in in a few weeks.

Kelly Weiss with Habitat for Humanity says she loves the days when a family can see their dream of home ownership move a big step closer to reality.
