AUSTIN -- Austin police are investigating after a five-year-old child was run over by a vehicle Thursday afternoon.
It happened in the 2700 block of East 7th Street.
Austin police say a mother and her five-year-old were getting a ride from one of her friends when they stopped to get gas at a Shell station. The child was playing around the SUV and crawled under it. Without realizing the child was under the vehicle, the mother's friend ran over the child.
The adults got out, put the child in the SUV and started to drive him to the hospital. They ended up pulling over at 7th Street and Chicon, where they saw a fire truck parked. That's were they got help from EMS.
Austin-Travis County EMS says the boy was transported to Dell Children's Medical Center. Police say he has non-life threatening injuries and is said to be stable.
