The district's nine member book reconsideration commmittee voted 5 to 4 to keep the book TTYL, that's text speak for Talk To You Later, in middle school libraries.

The uproar over the novel began after parents Sherry and Wes Jennings say their 11-year-old checked out the book at Ridgeview Middle School.

The Jennings filed a complaint urging administrators to pull the book off middle school shelves. Administrators refused twice. Monday the parents and supporters went before a 7 member committee to try again. And again, their request was denied.

The novel contains sexual situations and curse words, which the Jennings say is much too racy for middle schoolers.

"Our objective from day one on this is to make parents aware of the level of vulgarity that is available in middle school libraries. We were naive enough to think that this is a safe place for our daughter to read. That's obviously not the case," says Wes Jennings.

WhenPflugerville ISD heard about the controversy, that district took the book off middle school shelves. It's available only in high school libraries.

The online directory for the Austin school district shows that TTYL is in middle schools and high schools.

The San Marcos school disctrict tells us they've never had the book at any campus.

The committee is the one that makes the decision about whether a book stays or goes. Superintendent Jesus Chavez released their decision.

The parents who filed the complaint now have until November 6th to appeal the committee's decision to the Round Rock school board.
