Victim knocked unconscious in downtown robbery, police say

AUSTIN – A man allegedly knocked another man unconscious to rob him Monday evening.

Police have charged Ricky Belk, 53, in connection to the Nov. 27 incident. According to court documents, Belk was seen on surveillance video near East 6th and Trinity Streets around 8 p.m. grabbing the victim from behind and violently throwing him to the sidewalk. Police said the victim landed head first and was knocked unconscious, and that Belk was seen going through the victim’s pockets while the victim was “bleeding profusely from his head.”

On Nov. 30, police told KVUE the victim is no longer at the hospital.

The affidavit states police arrived on scene around 8:10 p.m. and took Belk custody. Belk was placed in an isolation cell after police say he was “being physically combative towards the jail staff.”

Belk is being held in the Travis County Jail on $100,000 bond.
