AUSTIN - Austin police have arrested a man after they responded to a residence on Oct. 31 in response to a 911 call from a woman who said that she and her 5-week-old infant had been physically assaulted by him.
According to court documents, the victim stated that she had been struck several times in the face and strangled by Ruben Rodriguez, 27, while she was holding their infant. The suspect also stated that during the altercation, Rodriguez missed her face and punched their infant on the head.
The victims were taken to the Dell Children's Medical Center following the alleged assault, documents state. Police obtained the victim's medical records and found that the infant suffered a skull fracture in the lower part of the head.
Police said Rodriguez fled the scene prior to the officer's arrival.
On Nov. 14, police spoke with Rodriguez at the Travis County Correctional Facility. He allegedly admitted to striking the baby's mother, but told police he did nto intend to hit the baby.
Rodriguez was charged with felony injury to a child. According to online records, Rodriguez was in custody as of Friday with a $130,000 bond.
