Lobos finds $1.3M cocaine hidden behind license plate

Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies and K-9 Lobos located approximately 13 kilograms of cocaine hidden behind a sedan’s license plate on Friday.

The sheriff’s office said Lobos, partner Sgt. Randy Thumann and Reserve Deputy Justin Pannell stopped a white sedan along Interstate 10 around 12:45 p.m. March 10 for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver – Gricelda Garcia, 37, of Mexico – about her travel itinerary, the sheriff’s office said Thumann “observed many criminal indicators of narcotic trafficking.”

Garcia consented to having the vehicle searched, at which time Lobos began an exterior sweep of the car and alerted to the front grille. Thumann found an aftermarket component behind the grille, and Investigator David Smith and Deputy Pannell found the cocaine with an approximate street value of $1.3 million.

Garcia was arrested on a felony possession charge and booked into jail on $50,000 bond.
