A Dale man has been charged after troopers say he was drunk when he crashed into another vehicle and seriously injured another man early Sunday morning near Circuit of the Americas.
Adrian Perez-Mata, 22, has been charged with felony intoxication assault. Department of Public Safety troopers noted in the affidavit they were called to the crash along the 13500 block of FM 812 around 2:20 a.m. Nov. 12. DPS said Perez-Mata crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a Mitsubishi sedan, and that the driver was flown to an Austin hospital by STAR Flight. The victim suffered a fractured pelvis, broken left foot, head trauma and a laceration, DPS said.
Perez-Mata was also seriously injured and was taken to St. David's South Austin Medical Center by the Austin-Travis County EMS. According to the affidavit, troopers spoke with Perez-Mata at the hospital, and noted Perez-Mata's breath smelled of alcohol and that his eyes were glassy and red.
Perez-Mata told troopers he was driving his Chevrolet Malibu home after he drank three beers with his friends at a bar earlier that night. However, Perez-Mata's passenger told troopers they each drank nine to ten beers at the bar. The affidavit also noted the passenger also told troopers the suspect almost struck another victim that was traveling near his vehicle.
Perez-Mata's bond is set at $100,000. He was not listed in the Travis County Jail as of 1 p.m. Monday. A booking photo is not currently available.
