Grand jury to look at shooting death of teen

DALLAS -- Jose Cruz was shot and killed by off-duty Farmers Branch police officer Ken Johnson back in March.

A grand jury will now look at the case against Johnson, who resigned from the department and was arrested for murder and aggravated assault.


Addison police say Johnson chased teen theft suspects, Cruz and Edgar Rodriguez, in his personal vehicle while off-duty March 13 and opened fire on both of them, killing Cruz.

Rodriguez was injured by survived.

While Addison PD charged Johnson, it will be up to a Dallas County grand jury to decide his fate.

They will see all evidence in the case and will hear from witnesses over the next few days.
