Argument escalated to SE Austin stabbing, police say

AUSTIN - An argument between two men at a southeast Austin apartment complex early Saturday morning escalated to the point where one man was stabbed several times, police say.

An arrest affidavit for Michael Flores, 20, states officers were dispatched to the Connection apartments along East Oltorf shortly before 5 a.m. Nov. 26. The affidavit states Flores told responding officers he had stabbed another man in self-defense.

Flores told police he had returned home from Sixth Street with some friends, and that the victim began shouting obscenities at a woman Flores was with. Flores said the victim threatened to assault him if he came back out of the apartment.

The affidavit states Flores returned from the apartment a short time later holding a kitchen knife, and got into a shoving match with the victim. Flores said he was punched at least six times in the face, and did not stab the victim until the victim began to choke him.

Police said the victim was stabbed three times: in the left side of the neck, his left shoulder and in his stomach.

Flores was booked into the Travis County Jail on Saturday morning on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Jail records state he is being held on $50,000 bond. A booking photo of Flores was not available as of late Monday afternoon.
