One dead in Elgin robbery, shooting

ELGIN, TEXAS - Police are investigating after a man was killed in an early morning robbery and shooting in Elgin.

EPD said they were called to the 400 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard around 1:15 a.m. Friday. Officers found one man lying on the floor at the entrance of a residence with “what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the lower right abdomen.” The victim – identified as Abel Garcia, 35, of Elgin – was transported to University Medical Center-Brackenridge, where he died from his injuries.

A witness told police Garcia and another witness were sitting in front of the residence when they were approached by a black male wearing a dark-colored hoodie and demanded money. The witness told police Garcia refused, and that the man brandished a pistol and shot Garcia. The robber then fled on foot.

Police said the suspect is believed to be in his 20s, between 5'9" and 5'10" tall with a medium build.
