The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies seized more than 30 kilograms of cocaine in a Tuesday traffic stop.
According to a release by the sheriff’s office, deputies stopped Sandra Jane Calderon, 34, as she was driving northbound on Interstate 35 for driving the left lane without passing. The deputy noticed Calderon acting nervous, being evasive and giving conflicting stories. The sheriff’s office said Calderon allowed deputies to search her 2009 Dodge Journey, and approximately 31 kilograms (68 pounds) of cocaine was found in compartments hidden inside the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office said it appeared that the drugs were passing through Williamson County, and that the drugs had an estimated value of $35,000 per kilogram (around $1 million total). The sheriff’s office called the Drug Enforcement Agency, who took over the investigation.
Calderon was taken into custody on federal drug charges and taken to the federal detention center in Bastrop.
