Man charged in theft of delivery truck

AUSTIN - Police have charged a man in connection to the theft of a delivery truck on Tuesday.

An arrest affidavit alleges Harold McDuel, 48, stole the truck from the CVS Pharmacy along Slaughter Lane. Police said officers were called to the CVS around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, and that the truck’s driver said his Isuzu Box Truck had been stolen. The driver added he walked into the store to have some paperwork signed, had left the truck running and returned to discover it was missing.

Police said the truck’s owner, Yumi Ice Cream Incorporated, had a GPS tracker attached to the vehicle. Yumi Ice Cream told police the truck traveled north on Interstate 35 and stopped near 7th and Neches Streets, and appeared to not make any stops.

The affidavit said officers arrived on scene immediately after McDuel and detained him. McDuel told officers his friend picked him up along Stassney Lane, and that he drove the truck because his friend told him to. McDuel was the only person observed exiting the vehicle and police said they did not locate anyone inside.

Police charged McDuel with felony theft of automobile. Online records at the Travis County Jail state he is being held on $20,000 bond.
