Police ID man arrested in South Austin bank robbery

AUSTIN - Police have identified the man suspected in the robbery of a South Austin Wells Fargo on Wednesday.

Austin police said Uchenna Chukwuma, 30, entered the Wells Fargo at 500 East Ben White Blvd. around 10 a.m. Wednesday and demanded money from a teller. No weapon was shown and no injuries were reported.

APD said officers noticed a man matching the robber’s description near the scene shortly after the robbery, and Chukwuma was taken into custody.

Charges are pending against Chukwuma. The case remains under investigation by APD Robbery detectives. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Robbery Tip Line at 512-974-5092 or CrimeStoppers at 512-472-TIPS.

APD said this was Austin’s 13th bank robbery of 2016.
