Forklift abandoned in apparent attempt to steal ATM, Buda police say

BUDA, Texas – Police are asking the public’s help in identifying the person or persons responsible for stealing a piece of construction equipment and using it to try and steal an ATM early Wednesday morning.

Buda police said officers responded to an alarm at First State Bank Central Texas near Main Street and Bradfield Drive around 3:50 a.m. Sept. 6. Police said they found an abandoned U-Haul truck in the back of the bank that was still running and a Skytrak Loader that was wedged in the drive-thru. BPD said the U-Haul had been stolen from Dollar Tile and the construction equipment had been taken from the construction site for the new City of Buda Municipal building.

“It does not appear as if the suspect(s) were able to get away with any money from the ATM and left the scene before officers arrived,” police said.

Buda police added they are gathering information on the person or persons involved from surveillance video. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Fleming at 512-312-1001.
