SAN MARCOS, Texas – A San Marcos man has been charged with murder after police say he was in an altercation that resulted in another man’s death.

Police said they were called to the Verandah apartments around 12:15 a.m. Aug. 24 for a reported assault. Police said they found the victim, 26-year-old Bryan Longoria, on the ground in the parking lot “with visible injuries to his head.” SMPD said officers began CPR until EMS arrived and transported him to South Austin Hospital, where he died from his injuries on Aug. 25.

SMPD said the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Joe Anthony Robert Sandoval, was detained around 10 a.m. Aug. 24 on an aggravated assault charge, and that the charge was upgraded to murder when they learned of Longoria’s death.

Sandoval was booked into the Hays County Jail on the murder charge. Jail records state he is being held on $500,000 bond. SMPD added they are continuing their investigation.
