Man pointed gun at father and son before ramming car, police say

AUSTIN – A man is facing charges after police say he pointed a gun at another man and rammed his vehicle.

According to the arrest affidavit for Allen Paul Mathis, police were called to the intersection of Parmer and Metric Boulevard around 9:40 p.m. July 22.The victim told police a man later identified as Mathis pulled a gun on him, climbed into his SUV and rammed his vehicle. Police noted the victim’s Buick had collision damage when they met with him.

In a follow up interview, the victim told police he was at Walnut Creek Pool with friends when Mathis’ girlfriend overheard them, and allegedly said she was going to have Mathis fight the victim. The victim said he left the area and called his father to meet him at a home in the Lamplight Village neighborhood. Mathis allegedly followed the victim to the residence, pulled a gun and pointed it at the victim and his father. The affidavit alleges that after someone said they were calling police, Mathis got into his SUV, backed up and then rammed the victim’s car before speeding away.

Mathis has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Online records at the Travis County Jail state he was booked early Wednesday and is being held on combined $100,000 bond. A booking photo for Mathis is not available as of 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.
