SPOKANE, Idaho -- They’ve become a part of our American culture and now the future of the Twinkie, and other Hostess treats, are in jeopardy. Hostess Brands is shutting down for good, after striking union bakers refused to return to work.
Word is spreading fast that the iconic treats may soon become things of the past and locals are now stocking up by the armload.
KVUE sister station KREM checked several supermarkets on Spokane’s South Hill and couldn’t find any regular Twinkies. KREM could only find a few boxes of the chocolate filled Twinkies.
William and Rachel Oliver were shopping at the HICO Market in the Perry District. The store still has individual packs of Twinkies remaining. While the Olivers said they personally aren’t big fans, Rachel said she stopped shopping with one of her friends because of her friend’s Twinkie craving.
