AUSTIN – This week KVUE News asked for and received a list of the top DWI bars in Austin for 2012 compiled by the Austin police.
For eight years Austin police have kept a list of establishments where suspected drunk drivers told officers they were drinking at before they were stopped.
Austin police sent KVUE the most up-to-date list which had data up to October 30, 2012.

KVUE wanted to talk to someone with Austin police about why they collect the numbers and what the data is used for, however, no one from the department got back to us in time for the newscast.
KVUE did notice one obvious absence on this year’s list. Ron Letterman, general manager of Sherlock’s Baker St. Pub on north Burnet told KVUE that this is the first year that they have not made the top DWI bars list.
Letterman said it has everything to do with Sherlock’s stepped up training of staff with whom they have daily pre-shift meetings.
“I would suggest that they monitor their staff and reinforce with their staff the absolute importance of alcohol service because you can have good guests but those good guests get a DWI or heaven forbid something worse happen to them. They're not going to be good guests much longer and we're just trying to keep people safe,” Letterman said.
