The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced two big recalls for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

The first involves 6,400 Easton Sports bicycles.

The bicycle stem can crack and cause the rider to lose control, posing a risk of serious injury if the rider falls. One rider suffered a minor injury when this happened.

This recall involves all Raleigh 2007, XXIX 700c MTN, RX1.0, Diamondback 2007, Mission, and Sortie bicycles with EA30 stems. The EA30 stems are black with white-and-gray graphics and feature a four-bolt stem face cap.“EA30” is printed on the stem. EA30 stems sold as aftermarket items are included in this recall.

Independent bicycle dealers nationwide sold these bikes from August 2007 through August 2009 for between $500 and $1,200. Aftermarket stems were sold from August 2007 through September 2009 for about $30.

If you have one of these you should stop riding your bicycle and contact any authorized Easton Sports for a free replacement stem.

Call (866) 892-6059 between 8am and 5pm CT Monday through Friday or visit Easton Sports Web site.

Tree Stands
The second recall involves 13,000 hang-on fixed position tree stands used by hunters.

According to Gander Mountain, the clasp may open unexpectedly if the strap is fastened incorrectly, causing the tree stand and the user to fall to the ground.

So far there are two reports of consumers falling while using the tree stands. One sustained unspecified injuries and a second person sustained a broken pelvis and broken arm.

They were sold only at Gander Mountain stores from July 2008 until July 2009. The GMT101 was sold for about $60 and the GMT103 was sold for about $80.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled tree stands and return them to Gander Mountain for a refund, exchange for a 2009 model or a store credit.

If you’ve got questions call (888)-542-6337 Monday through Friday between 8am and 10pm and Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 8pm or visit the Gander Mountain’s web site.
