CultureMap Austin -- Although they won't face the University of Texas at Austin on the football field this fall, Texas A&M University and Rice University can both claim victory over UT after being named the second and first most valuable degrees in Texas, respectively, according to Affordable Colleges Online. The recently released results place UT at a respectable third, with a $931,100 return on investment (ROI).

Rice and A&M each come in at more than a $1 million ROI, however.

In determining the most valuable degrees, researchers looked at alumni salaries, pay scale and federal data on education, while also analyzing the Carnegie Foundation ranking for each school.
