Lawsuit claims Austin's bag ban violates Texas health code

AUSTIN -- The Texas Retailers Association is suing the City of Austin over a plastic bag ban set to take effect on Friday March 1.
The ban prohibits retailers from offering single-use paper and plastic bags at checkout counters.
The group says the law violates the state's health and safety code.
The group is not seeking an injunction to stop the ban. Instead it wants a judge to decide whether it's valid.
