Texans seem to be drinking more but smoking less. Bloomberg took a look at how much states receive in tax collections from alcohol, tobacco and pari-mutuel betting and Texas topped the list bringing in more tax revenue compared with any other state.

That data shows tax revenue from alcohol last year was up slightly while revenue from tobacco was down and betting was little changed.

One unit of Dallas-based Dean Foods may be a takeover target.

WhiteWave Foods which spun off of Dean Foods and makes silk soy milk and Horizon Organic products has been one of Dean's most profitable units as more health conscious consumers select more plant-based and organic milks. One Wall Street analyst said General Mills may look to acquire WhiteWave since their yogurt business is struggling against greek yogurt varieties.

Tourism dollars means big money for local economies.

Texas Tourism Week runs May 4 through May 12. The state is launching a 'travel matters in Texas' sweepstakes starting Saturday. You can head to the Texas Tourism page on Facebook for fun giveways to inspire Texans to explore the state. Travel spending in Texas hit $65 billion last year which was the highest level ever and a six percent increase over 2011.
