Dorel Juvenile Group announced it is extending a recall it issued last year to include another 22,850 Maxi-Cosi Mico Infant Child Restraint Systems. The company says some of the car seats will not fully lock when inserted into the base.

If that happens a child may be injured in a crash. So far there are no reports of injuries.

The company says less than 200 remain on retailers’ shelves. However, thousands are likely in homes across the country. Models affected were manufactured between February 18, 2008 to June 28, 2008. Models produced after June 28, 2008 have the redesigned base with the new spring.

The Maxi-Cosi Infant Child Restraint Systems affected include:

•    Maxi-Cosi Mico Infant Child Restraint System, Models 22-371 and 22-372
•    Maxi-Cosi Infant Child Restraint System, Base Only Model 22-515

You can go here to see if your car seat is one of those affected.

The company says while wait to receive the fix kit they can continue to use their current car seat and ensure a secure connection by pulling up on the carrier to confirm it is engaged with the base.

This is an extension of a recall issued in July of last year which involved 28,350 car seats. That recall involved the same car seat manufactured between July 2007 and February 2008. Dorel has put together a website to answer some of your questions. You can also call 1-877-657-9546.

Dorel has issued several recalls in the last year for car seats and infant carriers. Some were due to problems with the handles others with base or strap issues.
