Aster's Ethiopian Kitchen, 2334 North I-35, failed with a 67. When an inspector from the Austin-Travis County Health and Human Services Department showed up they found mold on the surface of a bread mixture in the walk-in cooler. There was also rodent droppings on shelves in a dry storage room where rising bread was stored and mildew in the ice machine. On the required follow-up inspection, Aster's Ethiopian Kitchen passed with a perfect 100.

Now to a South Austin landmark: Artz Rib House, 2330 South Lamar, failed its most recent inspection with a score of 62. Violations here included an employee touching his face and beard with gloved hands then handling ready-to-eat food. There were numerous rodent droppings found in a dry storage area and numerous flies in the establishment. On the follow-up inspection, Artz Rib House passed with an 82.

Maudie's Too, 1212 South Lamar, failed with a 65. Among the problems spotted an inspector was one hand sink was blocked by a garbage can, while another didn't have any cold water, only scalding hot water, too hot to wash hands in. The inspector also found food particles and/or mold on the ice machine, cutting boards and a cart holding to-go containers. On the follow-up inspection, Maudie's Too also passed with a perfect 100.
