Two South Austin restaurants join a Clarksville favorite on the list of places that failed a surprise visit by the Austin-Travis County Health and Human Services Department.

Polvo's Restaurant and Bar on South 1st Street received a 55 from the health inspector. Among the critical violations, a number of foods were being held at the wrong temperature including salsa at 45 degrees and cooked chicken at 48 degrees. An employee was observed wearing the same pair of gloves for over and hour. In fact, the gloves were visibly soiled. Also there were flies in the kitchen landing on utensils and food prep surfaces.

On the required follow-up inspection Polvo's passed with an 82.

Now we head just down the road to Little Mexico Restaurant at 2304 South 1st. It failed with a 65. The inspector watched an employee wash hands with sanitizer only. Closer inspection revealed the kitchen hand sink without soap -- only hand sanitizer. There was also an accumulation of food particles on knife blades.

On the followup, Little Mexico scored a 91.

Finally Clarksville favorite Cipollina failed with a 65. Among the violations, a cook was observed to have dirt in their fingernails. Flies were spotted landing on the prep table, dishes, utensils, and food, and there was mold in the ice machine.

On the re-inspection Cipollina passed with a 97.
