Five restaurants run into trouble with the Austin-Travis County Health and Human Services Department.
In Central Austin, Nau's Enfield Drug on West Lynn Street failed its most recent health inspection with a score of 59. Critical violations included improper cold holding of potentially hazardous foods including milk, sour cream and egg beaters. The inspector also observed the line cook continuously wiping his hands on a dirty apron and then handling food. There was also an accumulation of orange mold on the interior of the ice machine. On the required follow up inspection, Nau's Enfield Drug scored a 97.
Bill Miller BBQ at 709 East Ben White failed with a score of 68. Problems included brisket left out under heat lamps for an hour. The inspector also observed roaches and flies in the establishment and an accumulation of food particles on plastic dishes and dry racks. On the follow up inspection, Bill Miller BBQ scored an 85.
The Shoppers Food Mart at 1901 East MLK failed with a score of 62. Violations included no soap or towels in the men's restroom and no towels in the employee restroom. There was no thermometer to check cooking temperatures and an accumulation of mildew in the ice machine. On the follow up inspection, Shoppers Food Mart scored a 97.
Shilla Restaurant on North I-35 failed with a score of 68. Problems included an accumulation of food particles on the slicer, knives, interior of the ice machine and tea spout. Shilla was also cited for sushi in unsound condition and the sushi chef did not properly handle ready to eat food. On the required follow up inspection, Shilla restaurant scored an 89.
And Flores Mexican Restaurant at 7900 North 620 failed with a score of 69. Among the problems, an employee failed to wash hands and change gloves after handling raw meat. Also, there was no soap in the kitchen hand sink and an accumulation of dirt in the spigot of the ice tea urn. On the follow up inspection, Flores Mexican restaurant scored a 96.
