Birds in the dining room and rodent droppings are just some of the problems health inspectors found in local restaurants.
Pars Deli & Mediterranean Supermarket, 8820 Burnet Road, failed its Austin Travis County Health and Human Services inspection with a score of 565. Health department violations include toxic spray stored next to canned food and on the spice shelf, missing discard dates on cooked food, including the chicken salad and vegetable soup. The inspector also had live caged birds in the dining room removed immediately. On the required follow-up inspection, Pars scored an 83.
The next one is a repeat offender. The Sea Dragon, 8776 Research Boulevard, failed its health inspection with a score of 58. Problems include refrigerated food like pork chops, dumplings, and shrimp rolls held for 24 hours without a discard date. There was no hot water in the ladies restroom and an accumulation of food particles, or mold, was inside the ice machine, can openers and wine glasses. On the required follow-up inspection, Sea Dragon scored an 81.
Our final stop is at the Food Court of Highland Mall, where the Lotus Express sailed its health inspection with a score of 58. Critical violations included rodent dropping and the odor of urine. Condensation was dripping into a large tub of broccoli. There was no hot water at the hand sink and an accumulation of food particles was found the can opener, knives and veggie chopper. On the required follow-up inspection, Lotus Express scored a 77.
