It's a treat to go out to eat but how can you enjoy a night out without packing on the pounds?
If the restaurants don't display nontraditional information dietitians say there are clues you can look for that can indicate which foods are high in calories.
"Things like crispy, creamy, um breaded, smothered. Those are not the ones you want to order,” Marisa Moore, a dietitian, said. “…so you want to look for foods that are grilled or broiled or steamed instead."
Another tip is try to order first so you're less tempted by others' choices and dietitians say don't be afraid to ask the server to tailor your meal to make it healthier.
Because restaurant portion sizes can be so big ask the server to bring a to-go box early and put half of your meal away when it arrives.
