LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada gambling regulators have approved a casino license for the centerpiece casino at the $8.5 billion CityCenter complex on the Las Vegas Strip.

The Nevada Gaming Commission unanimously approved the license Thursday at a special meeting in Las Vegas.

The state agency found both MGM Mirage and project partner Dubai World suitable as owners of CityCenter, which opens in phases starting next month. Its Aria Resort & Casino is scheduled to open on Dec. 16.

Regulators questioned executives during the two-hour hearing about their finances, the operation of the casino and the relationship of the joint venture.
