VICTOR, N.Y. (AP) — Constellation Brands Inc. and Crown Imports have filed a motion to ensure their interests are represented in the U.S. government's case against beer maker Anheuser-Busch InBev's proposed acquisition of Grupo Modelo.
The Justice Department says the AB InBev and Modelo deal would reduce competition.
Constellation was not named in the complaint but it says it has a vested stake in the deal, which it supports.
Crown Imports is a joint venture between Constellation and Modelo to distribute foreign beers in the U.S. Modelo had planned to sell its half of Crown Imports to Constellation in order to address antitrust concerns over its deal with AB InBev.
The motion filed Friday would allow Constellation, which is based in Victor, N.Y., and Crown Imports to have direct access to the legal proceedings.
