LANSING, Mich. (AP) — CHALLENGE: State Senate amendment to Michigan Department of Community Health's budget bill for next fiscal year.

WHAT IT WOULD DO: Stop enforcement of smoking ban at charitable fundraising events that have exited for at least 10 years.

STATUS: Budget passed by Senate but it still must be reconciled with budgets proposed by House and governor.

CHALLENGE: Senate bill to amend law

WHAT IT WOULD DO: Allow smoking in enclosed, separate rooms and outdoor patios of eateries.

STATUS: Introduced last year, Senate Bill 352 is currently in the Senate Government Operations Committee, which is chaired by Majority Leader Randy Richardville.
