Drafted

02:28 PM CDT on Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Yea...I'm one of those guys. I play fantasy football.

Had my draft earlier this week. Yea...I spent about two hours picking players for a fantasy roster.

I know there are a lot of you out there who think fantasy leagues are a waste of time but I beg to differ. Here are my three good reasons why fantasy football is a good thing.

I'm gonna watch the games anyway (it's kind of my job) and keeping up with a fantasy team helps to keep me up to date on which players are hot and which ones are not.

Fantasy football allows me an easy forum to talk trash to my buddies. If Frank Gore has a better week than Ronnie Brown I normally wouldn't care but when Gore is my back and he has a big Sunday, I AM THE MAN because I picked him. (this is true, I took him with the 10th pick in the 1st round)

Lastly and perhaps most importantly, having a fantasy team makes games I would otherwise not be all that interested in seem very important. Back to Gore for this one. I am not a 49ers fan and I never will be. Don't really care about watching any of they're games. But, now that I have Gore on my team that will change. I will watch, and be interested, everytime they are on TV.

I don't bore "non-fantasy" people with my players' stats. Nobody cares that my backs combined to run for 275 yards and 4 touchdowns. I don't ask which defense I should start. Nobody cares that Jacksonville is better against the run but the Giants have the 7th best pass defense in the league.

Fantasy football is not for everyone.

My team hasn't played a game yet and I think there may be a championship in my future. Maybe that's why I like fantasy football so much. Winning is fun, even if the running back from San Fransicso is doing all the work.
