I knew this was going to happen

05:27 PM CST on Monday, December 1, 2008

I tried to warn you.

Had it all figured out last week, and it turned out to be even worse than I thought.

OU's winning streak in November has them in the Big-12 Championship game.

Fair? Not to Texas. And in some ways, not to Texas Tech. There's no great way to break a three way tie.

Would you rather use positive points, like they do in so many high school districts?

Flip a coin, like they did in the old days of high school ball?

The key this week is to remember, it's not over. Three things going in the Longhorns' favor:

Number one: Missouri. OK, that's not a great asset, but if the Tigers pull the upset, things look good for Texas to go to Miami.

Number two: Florida. If Florida beats Alabama, then I think Texas has a chance to make up ground in the computer polls. In the Anderson, I think Texas goes up (as does OU but that would be OU's low score so it's thrown out) and I think Texas has a commanding lead in the Colley where Florida could pass OU. That's makes the computer difference a manageable .02.

Number three: Sympathy. Don't laugh. People love underdogs and that's what Texas is in this race. It will attract a few extra points for the Horns in the Harris, the Coaches, and even for Colt McCoy in the Heisman.

Is it a done deal? No. But don't give up hope.
