You want all HD? So do we!

05:00 PM CDT on Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Another great win for the Longhorns over the weekend, but it apparently wasn't a big enough game to merit HD.

If you watch us on 1511 on cable... or however you get an HD signal... and were upset about the lack of High Definition signal, I feel your pain. But need to remind you... it's not our fault!

My friends Megan and Billie get the brunt of the upset phone calls, and I personally feel sorry for them. When you work in programming and at the front desk, you get lots of messages from upset viewers. But this is one of those cases when you're picking on the wrong person.

It's like calling the library or the bookstore if you're upset because a book has only been published in hardback and not paperback.

Megan and Billie don't control the HD signals by ABC or any other network.

Yes, everything has to be digital (although not true HD) by next February, but ABC splits things up with HD and standard. For instance, this weekend, we'll get the Texas Tech vs Kansas State game, and it will be standard def. The same with Arizona State vs Cal in the West. But Florida State vs Miami and Illinois vs Michigan are in HDTV. The trouble is, they're all regional games and we get the Big 12 game, which for whatever reason, is standard.

The good news is our prime time game (Oregon at USC) is HD!

I don't know how ABC picks their games... or their "definitions". I can guess... but that's all it is.

I do know Texas-OU is on ABC and KVUE on the 11th and it's such a big game, it will probably be HD. But... that's just one of my guesses. Nothing's for certain. At least... not yet.

And remember Megan and Billie have no control. They're just watching like the rest of us!
