Does Mack feel snakebit on trouble?

10:20 PM CDT on Monday, September 1, 2008

After so much trouble in 2007, it's been a very quiet 2008 for Mack Brown and the Longhorns.

Maybe it's because of Coach Ken Rucker being like a father figure to the players and checking up on them.

Maybe it's Mack making sure he only recruits really good... really nice... kids.

Maybe it's just dumb luck.

But Mack's luck ran out over the weekend.

Before the game on Saturday, a press release was handed out in the press box, detailing the one game suspension of receiver Brandon Collins. Pretty minor, since he had no game experience, but a suspension is a suspension.

Then after the game, Lamarr Houston gets arrested and charged with DUI.

Time for another suspension.

Mack Brown talked about it today and you can tell he really feels for Lamarr Houston. He says he's not just a good kid, he's a "great" kid. And Mack and his players agree that no one is perfect and everyone makes a mistake.

But don't you know Mack's tired of mistakes. Especially when he's in charge and he gets ridiculed and lines like "another of Mack Brown's players has been arrested" is used in the media.

It's not something you want your name tied to. But when you're in charge of 100 guys between the ages of 18 and 22 (oh yeah, don't forget about old man Quan Cosby who's 25!) you know you're luck is going to run out sometime.

I'm sure Mack just wants to get back on that police blotter winning streak.
