It's Favre'lly over!
03:42 PM CDT on Friday, August 8, 2008
Brett Favre's trade to the Jets finally ends this ordeal.
Or does it?
Since being traded, he's travelled to Cleveland, met the media, and then gotten honored like royalty in The Big Apple.
And he still hasn't taken a snap yet in practice.
I have a feeling that if he had been traded to Tampa Bay, Jon Gruden would have him out on the practice field right now, learning that offense, and giving him plays to study for a pop quiz this weekend.
But... this is New York City.
Favre spent this morning getting all kinds of goodies from the Mayor of New York City.
And, again, he hasn't even had one practice yet with the Jets.
I've told you before that I respect Brett Favre's abilities and have nothing against him. But come on.
We've seen lots of future Hall of Famers switch teams late in their careers. Nolan Ryan... Emmitt Smith... Joe Montana... Tony Dorsett.
I don't remember anybody getting treated... like this.
You think Eli Manning's laughing or crying right now. The Super Bowl champ is now the 2nd most popular starting quarterback in New York City.
Let's stop with the circus atmosphere... and play some ball.
Honor Favre when he wins a game or two. Or, better yet, when he makes it to the playoffs. Or even better, when the Jets have to give up a first round draft pick because he led them to the Super Bowl.
Enough with the pomp and circumstance.
It's time for some football.
