AUSTIN -- Austin police are investigating a fatal crash overnight.

Sgt. David Crowder of the APD says a woman drove into a light pole at Wells Branch Parkway and FM 1825 around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers blocked off a portion of both roads while crews investigated the crash. Crowder says other drivers saw the crash and called 911. At least two witnesses have been talking to detectives. They say the woman was heading Southbound on FM 1825 when she lost control and hit the pole.

Police don't know what caused her to crash. That's the focus of their investigation.

“[It’s] too early to tell if alcohol was a factor. It’s raining now but it was not raining at the time; streets were dry,” explained Crowder.

Crowder says the driver was the only person in the car at the time. She died immediately. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The woman’s name has not been released. Police say she was in her 20s.
