AUSTIN --Hosting a conference in Austin is nothing new.
But what one group of visitors is doing while they are here, is not what you might expect.
Meteorologists from all over the world are coming to Austin, 3500 in all, to attend the annual meeting of the American Meteorological Society at the Austin Convention Center.
A handful of them decided to give back to the city they are visiting. They are cleaning the banks of Waller Creek across from the convention center, and making an impact on Austin.
Officials with Keep Austin Beautiful say this is one of the most neglected parts of the city. Partly because the high slopes around the creek bed make it hard to get to and that means there is a lot of work to be done.
"It really has impressed me. It's becoming more and more popular for conferences who visit Austin to want to come out and do some good and volunteer with us. It is still rare, though and we're really glad for their support," said Keep Austin Beautiful's Ladye Anne Wofford.
