Thousands lined the streets of downtown Austin for the 59th annual Veterans Day Parade Sunday morning.

Americans celebrated pride of country and love of freedom, with a parade honoring the men and women who paid for those freedoms with service.

Austin's veterans day parade down Congress Avenue featured bands, decorated war veterans, and even a purple heart Santa Claus.

But for many, the best part of the parade was watching as the veterans on the sidelines were acknowledged by their commrades, and thanked by the people all around them for their service.

It's why Erin Chisholm brought her young neice and nephews to the parade.
