ROUND ROCK -- A purse snatching incident in Round Rock has injured two people and placed a couple in jail.

Round Rock police say they were called to investigate an auto-pedestrian accident in the 200 block of University Boulevard around 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.

Witnesses told officers that a female suspect had stolen a woman's purse before jumping into a nearby SUV with a man in the passenger seat.

As the woman chased after her purse, the suspect, now driving the SUV, struck her and ran directly over a male. The man is now in critical condition at a local hospital. The first victim was treated on the scene by emergency officials.

Police say the two suspects drove the SUV east on University Boulevard. Round Rock officers located them quickly and discovered the vehicle they were driving had been stolen from Burnet County.

Anthony Hutchins, 36, and Jennifer Taylor, 36, were arrested.

"They were from the Odessa area, went through Marble Falls and ended up in Round Rock. Our belief right now is they were trying to support their drug habit," said Sgt. Darin Bayles with the Round Rock Police Department.

Bayles says the two were trying to get money to buy crack cocaine.

Hutchins is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated robbery and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Taylor is charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

They are both being held in the Williamson County Jail.
