AUSTIN -- Property taxes in Travis County are due by the end of Thursday, January 31, 2013. Late payments will cost property owners additional fees including a seven percent penalty and interest charges.

County Tax Assessor and Collector Bruce Elfant is anticipating long lines at tax offices across the county. The office is accepting payments made in person, by phone, online or by mail.
According to Elfant, about 95 percent of all property taxes in the county will be paid by the January deadline. By the end of the year Elfant predicts more than 99 percent of the taxes owed will be paid in full. The county expects to bring in about $2.5 billion in property taxes. The money comes in from 107 taxing jurisdictions including the City of Austin, the Austin School District, Travis County, Austin Community College and the Central Health Office.
Those struggling to pay their full property tax bill can arrange a payment plan with the tax assessor’s office.
Payments can be made in the following ways:
  • In person at 5501 Airport Blvd. (main office) until 5:30 p.m.
  • In person at any satellite tax office until 5 p.m.
  • By phone at (512) 854-9473 until 5:30 p.m.
  • Online here until midnight
  • By drop box at 5501 Airport Blvd. until midnight
  • By mail with the U.S. Postal Service with a postmark of Jan. 31
