ELROY, Texas -- As of Thursday June 07, 2012, there are 163 days until opening day of the Circuit of the Americas Grand Prix race at the Formula 1 track in Elroy.

However according to President of Circuit of the Americas Steve Sexton, there are still thousands of job openings.

“Fifty to 60 salaried, 2,300 full-time and around 3,000 plus on major event days,” said Sexton to KVUE regarding F1 job openings locally.

According to their website, COTA has openings in: accounting, finance, administration, general management, communications, community relations, facility operations, event staff, legal, retail, concessions, sales and marketing and technical services.

“In Idaho there's like no jobs at all. You can't find a job anywhere. But over here, I hear that there's a lot of job offers,” said 18-year-old Rosa Garcia who moved to Elroy from Idaho a month ago to be with family and to look for a job.

While many of the F1 jobs are for major events, Sexton made it clear that the Formula 1 race is one of many happenings at the track.

“I'll stress again Circuit of the Americas is just not Formula 1 alone. We hear F1 a lot. The race this fall is Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, but in fact, we're talking about four or five major motor sports events a year, an amphitheater, a lot of uses for community events, festivals, runs, bike races. I mean, this is a year-round, multi-purpose facility. It's not just about one major race per year,” said Sexton who added that the F1 track could bring in $400 million annually.
