SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- A 50-year-old man who pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography may have assaulted more than 50 children while working at a rehabilitation center in California, prosecutors say.

Edward Merlin Olson recently appeared before a federal judge on child pornography charges he was arrested for in November. At the time, he was working at San Antonio's Methodist Hospital.

Olson agreed to a plea deal, admitting that he distributed child pornography and had sexually abused a minor.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Thompson said Merlin is paying the price that comes with these types of crimes.

"We take this crime very seriously," she said. "And we will find you. It may take some time, but we will find you."

Olson also allegedly admitted to FBI agents that he sexually molested as many as 50 boys at a children rehabilitation center in Orange County, Calif.

Investigators believe he had up to a million files of child porn in his possession.

"It's not that the abuse isn't bad enough -- it is -- but when that abuse is documented and put out in the Internet forever, those children suffer consequences from that forever. They know that the images are out there and they don't know who's looking at them or who has them and who's done what with them other than they know people are out there trading their images," Thompson said.

Olson's plea comes just one week after he pleaded guilty to one charge of possession child pornography and decided to face trial on the remaining charges.

As part of the plea deal, two of the five charges against Olson were dropped. He still faces up to 30 years in federal prison.
