HOUSTON, Texas – Kristiana Alaniz will turn 12 years old on 12/12/12 and she'll celebrate with a party at Discovery Green in downtown Houston.

But unlike most 12-year-old kids, Kristiana isn’t all wrapped up in the gifts she’ll receive. That’s because she’s giving them all away.

Instead of bringing gifts for her, Kristiana asked guests to bring gently-used coats and jackets for children living at the Star of Hope Shelter.

Kristiana and her mom, Alicia, will collect the coats at the 4 p.m. party Wednesday, and then deliver them to the shelter.

Two years ago, Kristiana collected blankets for the Star of Hope children on her 10th birthday.

"She certainly proves you’re never too young to make a difference," said her mom, Alicia Alaniz. "She’s a real blessing and I thank God for her every day."

If you’d like to donate a coat, you can drop it off at Kristiana’s birthday party or at the shelter at 6801 Ardmore. They could also use blankets.
