MUSKOGEE COUNTY, Oklahoma -- A 17-year-old convicted of manslaughter will have to serve 10 years of church.
The sentence was given by an Oklahoma judge and is sparking controversy throughout the nation.
Last year Tyler Alred crashed his car into a tree, killing his friend. At the time Alred had a blood alcohol level of .07. He pleaded guilty, and the judge sentenced him to church.
This judge has handed out similar sentences in the past, but mostly to parents who fail to pay child support or felons who don't pay court costs.
